WHY CHOOSE HARDWOOD FLOORS?
Health Benefits The environment Protection Agency has said that indoor air quality is one of our top health threats. Installed in the home, or elsewhere, woodfloors can help to contribute to a healthy living environment. Hard surface flooring such as hardwood flooring does not trap or harbor dust mites or moulds that cause respiratory problems such as allergies and asthma. You will be protecting both your own and your families health.
Ecological Benefits Wood floors are ecologically friendly. Since wood is a natural resource. Unlike most floor coverings, wood is sustainable. Long gone are the days when the trees were cut down with little thought for the long term consequences for the worlds rainforests. Today, most timber is cut from forests that are carefully managed to ensure continued resources in the future. In fact almost twice as much timber is added every year than is harvested. Additionally there is more standing hardwood timber today than there was 50 years ago.
Variety Wood Floors have come a long way in the past few years. Today there are more styles of species of wood flooring than ever before. Whether you are looking for traditional pine, exotic wenge or trendy bamboo, solid, engineered or laminate flooring. You can be sure to find a colour or style to fit your taste.
Maintenance With today's advances in wood flooring stains and finishes, cleaning your wooden floor has never been easier. Regular maintenance requires little more than sweeping with a soft bristled broom, and vacuuming with a soft floor attachment, and a wipe with a well rung out cloth, when required.
Warmth A wood floor retains the warmth and keeps draughts at bay. Cosy and intimate, it fills your home with the living, warm spirit of wood.
Affordability A beautiful woodfloor need not cost much more than a quality carpet, indeed it will work out cheaper in the long run. Unlike a carpet, your wood floor will last for years and increase the value of your property.
What type of hardwood flooring? Hardwood floors are environmentally friendly and they add to the value of a home. Surveys of real estate agents nationwide estimate that hardwood flooring can add as much as $10,000 to $50,000 to a home's resale value.

Solid Wood Floors Solid Wood flooring comes in three basic types:
STRIP flooring accounts for the majority of installations. Strips usually are 2-1/4 inches wide, but also come in widths ranging from 1-1/2 inches to 3-1/4 inches. They are installed by nailing to the subfloor. PLANK flooring boards are at least 3 inches wide. They may be screwed to the subfloor as well as nailed. Screw holes can be covered with wooden plugs. PARQUET flooring comes in standard patterns of 6" x 6" blocks. Specialty patterns may range up to 36" square units. Parquet often achieves dramatic geometric effects of special design patterns.
A solid hardwood floor can be installed on a concrete slab as long as the floor is on or above ground level. They can be sanded and refinished over several generations of use.
Solid wood flooring expands and contracts with changes in your home's relative humidity. Normally, installers compensate for this movement by leaving an expansion gap between the floor and the wall. Base moulding is the traditional "cover-up" for this gap.
Engineered Strip Wood floors are made of several layers of different woods or different grades of the same wood stacked and glued together under heat and pressure. Engineered wood flooring is less likely to be affected by changes in humidity and can be installed above, on, or below ground level. Our engineered wood floors with thicker top layers can be sanded many times.
Engineered Longstrip floating Wood floors consists of a plywood base topped with a 3-5mm thick layer of real hardwoodr. Plies and thicknesses vary, but three-ply, 9/16 - 5/8" inch flooring is most common. (Remember that solid hardwood floors, at 3/4 inch, are twice as thick as wood laminates.) The real wood topping (3.5-4mm thick) of longstrip floating floors can be sanded and refinished three times. Our products warranty the finish for 10 - 25 years.
